- 10 tablespoons (150g) unsalted butter, cut into 10 slices
- 6 ounces (170g) chopped semi-sweet chocolate, good quality
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100g) packed brown sugar, light or dark
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks (optional)
- Flaky sea salt (optional – for topping)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepot, add the butter slices and place it on a stove burner set to medium heat. Stir frequently until the butter melts and turns a lovely golden brown color, about 5 to 8 minutes.
- Whisk in the chopped chocolate until it melts and becomes smooth, then set aside to cool slightly.
- Combine both sugars and eggs in a large bowl. Beat with an electric mixer until the sugars dissolve, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Add your vanilla, cocoa, and the slightly cooled brown butter mixture to the egg mix. Whisk until combined.
- Fold in the flour, salt, and chocolate chips, mixing just until combined.
- Pour your batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is no longer shiny.
- Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan, then use the parchment paper to lift them out and cut into 16 slices.
- Sprinkle with flaky sea salt before serving if desired.
Notes
For a twist, consider adding chopped nuts, mint, or espresso for different flavor profiles. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or refrigerate for a week.
