A comforting recipe for crispy chicken fried chicken served with a creamy homemade gravy, perfect for family dinners.

- 6–8 thin sliced chicken breasts
- 2 cups flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- 1 Tbs hot sauce
- Oil for frying
- 1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
- 1/3 cup flour (for gravy)
- 2 cups milk
- Salt & pepper (for seasoning)
Instructions
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan on the stove until it reaches 325°F.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
- Combine buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce in another bowl until smooth.
- Dredge chicken breasts in flour mixture, then dip into egg mixture, and back into flour.
- Fry each piece of chicken for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Drain cooked chicken on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Heat 1/4 inch of reserved oil in a large pan and stir in 1/3 cup of flour to create a roux.
- Whisk in 2 cups of milk until thickened, then season with salt and pepper.
- Serve gravy over each piece of fried chicken.
Notes
For extra crispy chicken, let the coated chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before frying. Any leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
