Description

A comforting recipe for crispy chicken fried chicken served with a creamy homemade gravy, perfect for family dinners.


Ingredients

  • 68 thin sliced chicken breasts
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbs hot sauce
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/4 cup reserved oil from frying
  • 1/3 cup flour (for gravy)
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt & pepper (for seasoning)

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan on the stove until it reaches 325°F.
  2. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl.
  3. Combine buttermilk, egg, and hot sauce in another bowl until smooth.
  4. Dredge chicken breasts in flour mixture, then dip into egg mixture, and back into flour.
  5. Fry each piece of chicken for about 3-5 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  6. Drain cooked chicken on a paper towel-lined plate.
  7. Heat 1/4 inch of reserved oil in a large pan and stir in 1/3 cup of flour to create a roux.
  8. Whisk in 2 cups of milk until thickened, then season with salt and pepper.
  9. Serve gravy over each piece of fried chicken.

Notes

For extra crispy chicken, let the coated chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before frying. Any leftover chicken can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
