Description

A warm and comforting casserole layered with ground beef, cheesy potatoes, and herbs—a perfect family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray or olive oil.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onion is soft.
  4. Spread the cooked ground beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange the sliced potatoes on top and season with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  5. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese over the beef layer.
  6. Pour the beef broth or water around the edges of the casserole to keep the potatoes moist. Drizzle with milk if desired.
  7. Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until potatoes are tender and cheese is bubbly.
  8. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot.

Notes

Make ahead by assembling the casserole the night before and refrigerate. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
