Description
A warm and cozy casserole made with layers of tender potatoes, savory ground beef, and gooey cheese, perfect for family gatherings and weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef (or ground turkey)
- 1 medium onion (chopped)
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 5–6 medium russet potatoes (thinly sliced, about 1/8 inch)
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella (optional)
- 1 10.5 oz can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for greasing the dish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil or butter.
- Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium-high heat along with the chopped onion until fully cooked. Drain excess fat, then stir in minced garlic, salt, pepper, and paprika.
- Make the sauce by whisking together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.
- Assemble the casserole by layering half of the sliced potatoes, half of the beef mixture, half of the sauce, and 1 cup of cheddar cheese. Repeat layers and finish with remaining cheese.
- Bake covered with foil for 45 minutes to cook the potatoes. Then, remove foil and bake for another 15–20 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Serve after letting it rest for 5 minutes. Enjoy!
