Description
A delightful Dutch apple pie with tender apples and a buttery, flaky crust, perfect for cozy gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 to 8 cups sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 egg (for egg wash, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Combine sliced apples, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour in a large bowl. Toss gently until the apples are well coated.
- Roll out the pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie pan, pressing it down gently.
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture, carefully arranging the slices for even coverage, and dot the top with buttery flecks.
- Prepare a second crust to cover, sealing it well around the edges. Make sure to cut slits for steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust with a beaten egg for that golden finish, if desired.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30 to 35 minutes, until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving, letting the flavors meld together.
Notes
For added flavor, consider mixing different apple varieties and using spices like ginger or cardamom.
