Description

A lightened-up version of classic cheesesteak in a comforting Sloppy Joe form, perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
  • 3/4 cup shredded reduced-fat mozzarella cheese
  • 4 whole-grain hamburger rolls
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and fragrant.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, and Italian seasoning, cooking for another minute until the garlic is fragrant.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and stir in the softened cream cheese until melted and well combined.
  5. Mix in the shredded mozzarella cheese, letting it melt into the luscious filling. Stir everything together until creamy and deliciously combined.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Serve the meat mixture on whole-grain rolls, garnished with fresh parsley.
