Description
A comforting ground beef and broccoli stir-fry, perfect for busy weeknights, that’s quick to make and family-friendly.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
- Cooked rice or quinoa (for serving)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). If there’s any excess fat, be sure to drain it for a healthier dish.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the onion softens and turns translucent, filling your kitchen with delightful aromas.
- Stir in the broccoli florets, soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), brown sugar, and beef broth. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry and stir it in. Allow everything to simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender and the sauce has thickened beautifully.
- Stir in the sesame oil and grated ginger (if using). Taste the mixture, adjusting the seasoning with salt and pepper, and perhaps a hint more soy sauce or sugar to get it just right.
- Serve the ground beef and broccoli over your choice of cooked rice or quinoa for a complete, comforting meal. Enjoy the warmth and flavors!
