Description

A comforting ground beef and broccoli stir-fry, perfect for busy weeknights, that’s quick to make and family-friendly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger (optional)
  • Cooked rice or quinoa (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes). If there’s any excess fat, be sure to drain it for a healthier dish.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the onion softens and turns translucent, filling your kitchen with delightful aromas.
  3. Stir in the broccoli florets, soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), brown sugar, and beef broth. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix the cornstarch with a little water to create a slurry and stir it in. Allow everything to simmer for 5-7 minutes, or until the broccoli is tender and the sauce has thickened beautifully.
  4. Stir in the sesame oil and grated ginger (if using). Taste the mixture, adjusting the seasoning with salt and pepper, and perhaps a hint more soy sauce or sugar to get it just right.
  5. Serve the ground beef and broccoli over your choice of cooked rice or quinoa for a complete, comforting meal. Enjoy the warmth and flavors!
