Description

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs (separated, room temp)
  • ¾ cup caster sugar
  • 125 g melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup plain flour (sifted)
  • 2 cups lukewarm milk
  • ¼ cup icing sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 340°F (170°C) and line an 8-inch square pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whip the egg whites until they reach stiff peaks and set aside.
  3. Beat the egg yolks and caster sugar together until pale and fluffy.
  4. Mix in the melted butter and vanilla extract.
  5. Sift in the flour and mix until smooth.
  6. Add the lukewarm milk to the batter and blend together.
  7. Fold in the whipped egg whites until combined.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35–60 minutes until golden.
  9. Cool completely on a wire rack before dusting with icing sugar and serving.
